Why are geographic coordinates read in degrees, minutes and seconds?
When you read a set of coordinates, such as (x) degrees north, (y) minutes and (z) seconds, why are degrees minutes and seconds used as the measurement? Are they literally speaking in minutes and seconds as a measure of time? Or does it mean some other form of measurement?
