Opinions? Is this a mcdojo?
I'm in ITF taekwondo right now, and I was thinking about taking another martial art since I will have more time over the summer. A few of my friends got to a dojo that teaches karate. I think they mentioned it was kenpo style. I'm not sure. Anyway, it seems sort of suspicious to me. You don' sign a contract or have a membership or anything like that. You just drop by whenever there is a cl you want to go yo for the price of four dollars for an hour long cl. They make you buy their uniforms and they cost around one hundred dollars. They also move students through the ranks very fast. One of my friends who started going there about two months ago already has her green belt. She only goes to cl about once to twice a week though. I'm not sure, maybe green belt comes after white, but she still seems to be moving kind of fast for hardly going. My other friends who have gone have only went to two classes, so they haven't moved up yet. It seems to me the school focuses a lot on teachinh things that will impress people if you're showing them, but not actually help in self defense. Other than all of that, it seems okay. Oh, and there's a lot of little kids who go there that have black belts. And the price to get a new belt is pretty hefty. To test to get a new belt you have to pay somewhere around seventy-five dollars. But other than that it seems to be alright. So what do you think? Is it worth my money? Or does it seem like a mcdojo?
